Ocean Ink FAQs

Consults

The first step of the tattoo process is to come in for a consultation with your chosen artist. This is so you can sit down with them and discuss design ideas, get a quote on pricing and work out a date and time for the tattoo session. Consultations are free. Give us a call or drop by the studio to book one in.

Bookings,
deposits, and payments

All tattoo bookings can be made in person at the studio, or by calling the studio. We do not take tattoo bookings via email or Facebook, though exceptions are made for people travelling from interstate and overseas. Please note that some of our artists have waiting times ranging from a couple of weeks to several months.

Deposits are required for all tattoos bookings. They are non-refundable and are cashed in on your final tattoo session. For large scale work an additional drawing fee may be requested at the time of booking.

We only accept cash in the studio. There are several ATMs and banks nearby if you need to grab some cash on your way to see us.

Rates and quotes

Any tattoos that can be completed in a few hours or less are quoted per individual piece, ongoing work will be charged per hour. Our minimum charge for a tattoo is $110. This covers the cost of being tattooed in a sterile, cross-contamination free environment, with single use inks, single use needles, autoclave sterilized instruments and disposables. We cannot price tattoos online or over the phone, so come into the studio for a quick chat if you need a quote.

Walk-ins

Although we are predominantly an appointment based studio, we happily take walk-ins when we have the time. Just give us a call or come by the studio to see if we can squeeze you in.

Vouchers

Tattoo gift vouchers are available at the studio and online. They can be purchased in any amount.

Age restrictions

We strictly only tattoo people over the age of 18 - even with parental consent. Absolutely no exceptions! ID will be required and if it cannot be produced we will not tattoo you.

Bringing friends and family

We would strongly prefer that you come to your appointment alone. If you must bring somebody with you while you are getting tattooed, please do not bring more than one person in the studio. We are a busy shop and need ample room to move around to avoid cross contamination.

Reschedules
and
cancellations

If you need to reschedule or cancel your tattoo please give us at least 48 hours’ notice. We are happy to reschedule your appointment for any reason, but if you do not show up or do not give sufficient notice of a rescheduling, your deposit will be forfeited and you will be required to pay another one to book back in. Deposits are also forfeited in the case of a cancellation. Rescheduling and cancellations will not be accepted via voicemail, email, text message, Facebook or Instagram. Please call the shop and speak to our assistant.

Face, neck and hand tattoos

Any requests to tattoo your face, neck, hands or fingers are entirely up to the discretion of the artist and largely dependent on your existing tattoo coverage.

Aftercare

Do keep your new tattoo clean at all times. Gently pat dry after cleaning and only apply after-care cream to the skin once it has been allowed to air-dry for at least 30 minutes. Apply Bepanthen Cream OR Dr Pickles Aftercare Cream sparingly each day. Use an SPF 30+ sunscreen when outdoors once your tattoo has fully healed.

Don't soak, swim or bathe for long periods while your tattoo is healing. Showers are fine. Don't scratch, pick or rub the healing tattoo. It will get itchy but resist the urge or you could cause scarring! Don't expose the area to sunlight whilst healing. If you have any questions or concerns about your healing tattoo, please don't hesitate to call.

We will explain how to look after your tattoo at the end of your tattoo session. We will also provide you with an aftercare sheet with instructions that you can reference once you leave the studio. If you have any concerns about healing in the days or weeks following your tattoo, please give us a call and we'll happily answer any questions you may have.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
Our non-invasive Laser Tattoo Removal uses light energies to target and fragment tattoo ink within the dermis. High-intensity beams of light, broken into tiny fragments, are used to break up the pigment, which is then collected by the body’s natural cleansing system, which in turn discards the molecules.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal feel?

Some people call it a “spicy tattoo” or compare it to rubber bands snapping on the skin, while others say it’s over before they can register how it feels!

How long does it take to fully remove a tattoo?

A typical tattoo takes about 10 – 12 treatments, spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart, to remove.

What is the average cost to remove a tattoo?

The price per tattoo removal treatment comes down to sizing. Our minimum begins at $50.00 per session for small pieces, custom prices are provided for large to extra large areas.
